Duncan Banner Column -- Republican activists still don't get it. It's not about poltical opportunity, it's about room for common sense moderates within a party. Read Party Chairman Lisa Pryor's response here. "It isn’t surprising that as a moderate Senator Riley would identify with a Democratic Party that claims both Governor Brad Henry and Duncan’s own Senator Daisy Lawler, both of whom are excellent examples of socially conservative Democrats who see the importance of supporting initiatives which benefit the middle class while upholding our deep rooted Oklahoma values. "

Glenn Coffee's "Coffee Talk" -- From a statewide column issued by Republican Minority Leader Glenn Coffee on 7/26/07. "Sen. Riley's experience as a classroom teacher gives her great insight into education issues -- she's also gained tremendous expertise in the area of juvenile offenders."

Associated Press Story -- 8/5/06 -- Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan, D-Stillwater, said speculation about an evenly divided Senate is wishful thinking by Republicans who he said will still be in the minority when the 2007 Legislature convenes in February. ``I think a tie is highly unlikely. We're going to keep the majority,'' Morgan said.

Okinsider.com -- 8/3/06 -- "When I was elected, my focus was on the family," Riley said. "I have had a growing concern with the narrowing view of the Republican Party. The moderate Republican is being pushed aside for the extreme right. This decision is a long time coming."

Okinsider.com -- 8/3/06 -- "This shows what's happening in Oklahoma," Morgan said, adding that all indications are set for a favorable November for Democrats across the state. Democratic Gov. Brad Henry will be re-elected, Morgan said, and the momentum is catching on in other Democratic races. When he spoke with members of the Democratic Caucus Thursday morning, feelings were high about what the membership could do as a majority in the Oklahoma Senate next year, he said. See video 1 above.

Daily Oklahoman -- 8/4/06 -- "I'm probably the only person in Oklahoma who understands how Bob Stoops feels," said Sen. Glenn Coffee, Republican minority leader.

The Daily Ardmoreite -- 8/9/06 -- "The moderate Republican has been pushed aside for the extreme right wing," Riley said. Riley, a member of the Senate's GOP leadership team who holds the title of minority whip, said she has received no support among Republicans in the state Senate. "The treatment I received in the last legislative session was abhorrent," she said, adding that her focus in the Senate has been "on families, children and the average Oklahoman."

Tulsa World -- 8/4/06 -- Riley said that when she notified Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan, a Stillwater Democrat, of her decision, "I basically had to pick him up off of the floor." See video 4 above.

Norman Transcript -- 8/4/06 -- "I sort of view this like a divorce," she said. "We've (Riley and her GOP colleagues) tried to change each other for the past six years -- it hasn't worked. We have too many differences."
