As of 10/23/06, Senator Easley has made the commendable decision to issue no "negative" communication from her campaign, not even comparison pieces about the desparate attempts by Mark Wofford to distort her legislative record on issues like immigration.

10/24/06 -- Rep. Randy Terril (nice site buddy, pay your bill) released a round of robo calls on Monday on immigration. Download the script here.

10/25/06 -- Channel 6 out of Tulsa profiled illegal immigration as an issue on their "Truth Test" series. Several Senate campaigns from both sides of the aisle have video clips shown. More Background on the race

Coming on the heels of the Tulsa World (see below) endorsement, Senator Easley received another boost last week with an A plus rating and endorsement from the National Rifle Association. Although early polling is encouraging, this race remains high on all target lists. Senator Inhofe, who reportedly talked Wofford into the race at the last minute, is keeping his vow to raise money into Wofford's war chest. Additionally, Senator Coburn has been active on Wofford's behalf as well. The Senators' activity on his behalf is evident, as 75% of his campaign donations have come from outside Senate District 18.

Senator Mary Easley is running for reelection in Senate District 18, which includes portions of Wagoner, Tulsa and Mayes Counties. Easley was elected to the Senate in March,2004 in a Special Election to succede her son, Kevin Easley. Mary had previously represented HD 78 since 1997, and carried over 3 precincts from Tulsa County to her new Senate District. This is her first reelection bid. The race was recently profiled in the Daily Oklahoman.

Easley's moderate position stances represent the rural portions of her district as well as the conservative precincts in Tulsa. Easley enjoys tremendous crossover appeal to Republicans, particularly in the HD 78 precincts.

Her opponent, Mark Wofford, was narrowly defeated in a 2004 House Race (HD 12) by Rep. Wade Rousselot. Reports from the district indicate Wofford learned much from his House defeat, and has retooled the organization of his campaign.

One of her proudest legislative accomplishments has been SB 1020, The Oklahoma Funeral Picketing Act, which was signed into law by Governor Henry on March 3, 2006. The bill was pursued to prohibit the picketing of military funerals by a radical fringe group out of Kansas. It establishes a 300 feet perimeter that demonstrators must abide by in respect for families who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. In response the Westboro Baptist Church organized a picket of Senator Easley's church with outrageous signs such as "Don't pray for the USA" and Thanks God for 9/11."
